Songs in A Minor
Keyes releases his first studio album, Songs in A Minor, on June 5, 2001 . The album brings her great popularity around the world: it diverges in the first week of sales in the amount of 235 thousand copies and, subsequently, passes over the mark of 10 million units worldwide. In the United States, Keyes became the best new artist and best R & B artist in 2001 in terms of album sales.
The Diary of Alicia Keys
Continuing his success, Keyes released his second studio album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, on December 2, 2003 . The album was praised by critics and debuted in first place in the United States, having sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, in the first week of more than 618 thousand copies and was sold in the United States in the amount of 4.4 million copies [8] , becoming the sixth album -bestseller among artists and the second among R & B-artists. To date, the album has sold around 9 million copies worldwide.
Unplugged
Keyes performed and made her contribution to the MTV Unplugged live concert series on July 14, 2005 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. During this lively session, Keyes added completely new arrangements to her songs such as “A Woman’s Worth” and the funky “Heartburn”, and also performed several cover versions. Part of the public Keyes were also invited performers. She performed Love Love or Leave It Alone with rappers Common and Mos Def, Welcome to Jamrock with reggae artist Damian Marley and the 1971 Rolling Stones cover song Wild Horses with Maroon 5 band leader Adam Levine .
As I Am
Since the end of 2006, Keyes has been working on her third studio album, “ As I Am,” which was released on November 13, 2007. Keyes spoke of the MTV album in early 2007: “Everything is going incredibly. I’m in love with this album. Another Way to Die and other projects (2008-2009)
Alicia Keys and Jack White of the White Stripes recorded a theme song for the movie (“Quantum of Solace”), the 22nd film about James Bond . The song “Another Way to Die” became the first duet in the history of soundtracks for Bond. White wrote and produced the song, he also plays the guitar and drum while Keyes plays the piano . The video for the song was filmed in Toronto on September 6, 2008 , when Keyes was at the Toronto International Film Festival, presenting her new film, The Secret Life of the Bees, and when White was there witha documentary about an electric guitar .
The song received an international radio premiere on September 18, 2008. The first song reviews were mixed. Some critics expect the song to become more popular as soon as it becomes more played on the radio and artists perform it live.
The Element of Freedom
Keyes’ fourth studio album will be released on December 1, 2009 under the title “The Element of Freedom”. On September 15, Keyes posted on her YouTube channel an audio clip of the song “Doesn’t Mean Anything,” the first single from the album.
