Arafat Jani started off in a Group B with Australia and China. He convincingly defeated Aus(5-2 and 3-2 -home and away). However in the Group stage he lost to China (2-1 and 2-0 home and away). But given Aus was defeated by China, so Jani Qualified to the Quarterfinals as the group runnerup.
In the Quarterfinals he faced off against thailand and convincingly defeated thailand (4-1 and 3-2 home and away). he then qualified for the semifinals- the highest a BD player has ever achieved. In the semifinals he faced Singapore and what a match it was, intense competition, the Singaporean was in the first match trailing behind 1goals to 2, however he came back and defeated jani in the 1st of the two matches(home 2-1), the next match with singapore(away) he again put up a great show and the match was drawn (1-1). but on the basis of home and away goals jani cudnt reach the finals.
So it was time for the deciding match of the 3rd place(bronze medal) with China(the player who defeated him at the group stages). It was time for revenge...and revenge was sweat. Jani started of with China in an away match and won it convincingly by 3goals to 1. The next match with china(home) was again very intense and jani managed to stay strong and drew the match. This meant that for the 1st time ever BD was entitled for a medal at the WCG arena.
Team ShadowPlay of DOTA couldnt live up to their expectation and lost to both their matches in the group stages(newzeland and singapore).
Ashik of Forza however put up a brave show to muscle his way to the next round(quarterfinals) after defeating korea and thailand. But the next round was a tough opponent and he was defeated by malaysia.
Overall this had been a superb experience for the team and we are very happy to have our country's name called up on stage in front of such a huge crowd and distinguished guests.
We shall be flying back home 2morow and shall land in dhaka 10pm.
Thanks to all who has supported us. Regards Irfan
